International Seminar in Budapest (27 March – 1 April)
«Europe United, a tool for peace!» is an international seminar organised by JEF-Europe and JEF-Hungary in Budapest, the capital of Hungary from 27 March until 1 April 2011.*
The seminar will take place in the European Youth Center of the Council of Europe, what brings us straight to the heart of Europe and the values of human rights, democracy and the rule of law. In Budapest, the participants will tackle the topic of EU enlargement and European integration in the light of ensuring ‘soft security’ on the European continent. Common values, such as respect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law are a catalyst for the creation of a Europe without dividing lines, where stability and peace are in place. However, some regions within Europe (e.g. the Western Balkans) are still facing challenges of instability after a long history of violence and ethnic wars. During the seminar we want to explore the challenges and opportunities different variations of cooperation and integration in Europe have to offer.
The aim of the international seminar is to raise awareness among youngsters on the importance of European integration, taking into account the ethnic, cultural and regional diversity on the European continent. Another important objective is to determine ways to promote peace, human rights, democracy and the rule of law as well as to discuss the role of youth involvement for peace-building on the European continent.
The methodology used during the seminar will be as interactive as possible and a combination of non-formal and informal education methods will be used: power brainstorming, workshops, field visits, panel discussions and lectures.
The seminar will also provide a range of leisure activities in the cityof Budapest enjoying the rich European history and culture this region has to offer.
